In a series of mirrors and trays, Mia Lagerman has explored the possibilities of the circular shape. The details of the frame, similar to a comma, gives the product a significant expression and a direction. At the same time, the detail creates a function for the suspension of the mirror and the handle of the tray.

Mia Lagerman

Mia Lagerman was born and raised in Stockholm but Copenhagen has been her base for many years. Mia is an incarnated Scandinavian who believes in quality, functionality and aesthetics. Over the past 25 years in which Mia has worked as a furniture designer she has been able to position herself as a key player on the design scene with an award winning portfolio and clients such as Fritz Hansen, Skagerak, Swedese and IKEA.

Mia sees every design project as a problem to be solved and her work as a place of opportunities. She feels obliged to develop thoughts and ideas that has not been though before and that the key to finding solutions is asking questions – a designer’s eye never sleeps.

She moves easily between different fields of furniture and product design. Working big and small, with renewals, improvements and interpretations a sense for artistic qualities and innovative thinking are equally important. To Mia, designing is to use experience and curiosity to create a story of materials, expressions, contexts, details and gut feelings to uncover the clues and complete the puzzle.

Brand description

Many modernist architects were universal designers with not only a clear understanding of designing houses, but also the interior, the furniture and almost the clothes the owners might wear. Swedese's founder, Yngve Ekström, was no exception. Together with names including Alvar Aalto, Bruno Mathsson, Arne Jacobsen and Poul Kjaerholm, Yngve Ekström was at the core of a generation of designers who made the concept "Scandinavian Modern" famous all over the world. With a keen eye, he designed Swedese's furniture, he designed together with L + M Architects also the head office building, logo, catalogues and personalised Christmas cards including their own poems. And so on.

The most well known design of Yngve Ekström's extensive portfolio is the Lamino armchair from 1956, which is still manufactured and sold all over the world. In 1999 the Lamino was voted the Twentieth Century's Best Swedish Furniture Design by the Swedish interior design magazine Sköna Hem.
